Geraldine Estelle Halliwell was born August 6th, 1972 in London. Growing up, Geri listened to artists such as Madonna.
Before joining the Spice Girls, Geri had previous jobs as a club dancer, a tv show presenter, an aerobics instructor, a barmaid,
cleaner and model. Finally though, Geri would get her break after answering an ad in a paper for an all girl band along
with Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Victoria Adams (and eventually Emma Bunton). Geri was the first in the group and
first met the next member, Melanie C. Originally the group was called 'Touch' but thanks to Geri and Emma, the name was changed
to Spice Girls. Geri was originally dubbed Sexy Spice, later changing to Ginger Spice. She was sort of like the
leader of the group, being the oldest. Geri and the girls had acheived so much success as a group, but it just wasn't
enough. During the Spice World Tour in 1998, Geri Halliwell left the group. Also in 98, Geri was named a Goodwill
Ambassador for the U.N.
Geri's first single was the song 'Look At Me' which topped the charts at #2 in 1999. The album 'Scizo-phonic'
followed and also done well. Geri was the first of the Spice Girls to release a solo album. Her next singles from
'Scizo' would be 'Mi Chico Latino', 'Lift Me Up' and 'Bag It Up', all which hit #1. She also wrote a successful autobiography
in 1999.
Geri returned in 2001 with 'It's Raining Men', her 4th solo #1. Her next single and album were titled 'Scream If
You Wanna Go Faster', released in 2001, the single and album both a hit. The album went gold. And her next
single 'Calling' was the final from the record.
In 2002 Geri hosted some reality series, including 'All American Girl' in the US. She also recorded a cameo on
the popular show 'Sex and the City'. She wrote a 2nd autobiographical book titled 'Just For The Record' also
a bestseller.
In 2004, Geri returned with her hit single 'Ride It', which hit #4 on the charts. And in 2005, Geri released
the 2nd single 'Desire' from her 3rd album, Passion.
In May of 2006, Geri gave birth to her first child. A daughter named Bluebell Madonna Halliwell.
On 12 April 2007, it was announced that Halliwell had signed a six-book deal with Macmillan Children's Books. The books
feature nine year old Ugenia Lavendar, as well as characters loosely based on Halliwell's celebrity friends. In interviews
to promote the book series, Halliwell said she had no plans to return to a solo musical career in the near future.
